Mark Hutchinson
Mark joined the firm in 1990 having read law at Oxford and worked in both London and Leeds. He became a partner in 1992 and is head of the Estate Planning and Administration Department, and is the firm's Managing Partner. He specialises in trusts, inheritance tax planning and estate planning and has been a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) since 1995.
Roger Dooley
Roger joined Kirbys in 1990 from Leeds and became a partner in 1993. He heads the Property Department and specialises in commercial transactions.
Georgina Greenheld
Georgina qualified and joined the firm in 1981. She became a partner in 1986. She heads the Family Law Department, specialising in all areas of family law including prenuptial agreements, cohabitation, divorce, separation and with particular expertise in complex financial applications and cases involving substantial assets, family businesses, trusts and farming businesses. She is a member of Resolution and an accredited Collaborative Lawyer.
Jonathan Robertshaw
Jonathan heads the Litigation and Commercial Departments and handles all types of general and commercial litigation disputes, contentious and non-contentious employment law and insolvency. He qualified in 1993, joined the firm in December 2001 and became a partner in 2004.
Alison Gray
Alison is a partner in the Family Law Department, having qualified in 1995, she joined the firm in 1999 and became a partner in 2003. Alison has over 16 years experience specialising in all aspects of family law matters. She has particular expertise in complex financial cases, especially those involving family businesses. Alison also specialises in cases involving unmarried couples, in particular disputes between cohabitees. She frequently acts for clients including company directors, individuals in the police and armed forces and medical professionals. Alison also has extensive experience in private law children proceedings, including residence, shared residence and contact disputes and in particular, assisting grandparents in securing contact with their grandchildren. She is recognised for her “attention to detail” and her no nonsense effective approach in agreeing financial matters. Alison is a member of Resolution and an accredited Collaborative Lawyer.
Jeremy Holroyd
Jeremy qualified in 1971 and joined Atkinson McCall in 1976 where he has been involved with the aspects of a North Yorkshire based general practice. With the merger in 2009 he joined Kirbys as a partner dealing with property and private client work including all related financial transactions and particularly agricultural property.
Karen Thompson
Karen qualified in 1999 and joined Kirbys in January 2003. She became a partner in 2010. Karen is involved in all aspects of probate, wills and estate planning as well as specialising in advice to the elderly. Karen also deals with trusts administration, Court of Protection work and Lasting Powers of Attorney. She has been a member of STEP since 2003.
Stuart Berry
Qualified as a solicitor in 1972 and joined Atkinson McCall in 1974. Stuart has broad experience in civil litigation and family law over many years as a partner of Atkinson McCall. He joined Kirbys as a consultant solicitor following the amalgamation of the two firms in 2009. Stuart is a Family Law Panel member, a Resolution member, and a Deputy District Judge – Civil Jurisdiction.
Elizabeth Balmforth
Elizabeth qualified in 1996 having previously worked in Leeds and joined the firm's Property Department in December 2006. In 2012 she was promoted to the position of Associate Solicitor. Elizabeth specialises in all aspects of residential and commercial property work, both freehold and leasehold.
Ellis Chapman
Ellis qualified in 2002 and joined the Estate Planning and Administration Department in May 2007. In 2012 he was promoted to the position of Associate Solicitor. Ellis specialises in advising the elderly, wills, probate, Powers of Attorney and Court of Protection matters. He became a member of STEP in 2011.
Carolyn Greenwood
Following many years working in Harrogate, Carolyn initially qualified as a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives and subsequently as a solicitor in 1998. Having worked in Leeds, Carolyn returned to Harrogate and joined Kirbys in July 2007. In 2012 she was promoted to the position of Associate Solicitor. Carolyn specialises in freehold and leasehold residential property.
Gareth Read
Gareth is a consultant solicitor with Kirbys, having had many years as a corporate and commercial lawyer and senior partner of a substantial West Yorkshire practice. He has wide experience of all commercial matters, with particular reference to company and business sales and purchases, shareholder agreements, partnership deeds and corporate restructuring.
David Harland
Practice Director, joined Kirbys in September 2008 with over twenty years experience of management with city law firms, and is a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Accounts Managers. David's role is to ensure that the firm remains true to the traditional core values of honesty and integrity, whilst evolving to meet the challenges posed by today's changing society.
